Abstract

These two diaries were written by Lydia Stauffer of New Holland, Pennsylvania between 1910 and 1942. The first diary was written in 1923 and includes occasional entries about her daily life on the farm and in her community. The second diary includes entries that date between 1910 and 1942 and document her trips throughout the United States and Canada with her husband, Harry.

Scope and Content Note

These two diaries were written by Lydia Stauffer of New Holland, Pennsylvania between 1910 and 1942. The first diary was written in 1923 and includes occasional entries about her daily life on the farm and in her community. The second diary includes entries that date between 1910 and 1940 and document her trips with her husband, Harry. The trips the couple took included Niagara Falls, Montreal, Lake Champlain, and New York City in 1910; Delaware Water Gap in 1923; Texas and Newburgh, New York in 1929; White Mountains, New Hampshire in 1930; Washington, D.C., Ocean City, Maryland and eastern Canada in 1931; Annapolis and Ocean City, Maryland in 1932; and New Jersey in 1935. Some of the memories of these trips were recorded in the diary by Stauffer's grandaughter, Elizabeth Groff. Entries from 1937 to 1942 return to daily and community life in New Holland, Pennsylvania.
