Abstract

This ledger documents the daily activities at a boarding house that was likely in southern Vermont, but possibly in New Hampshire, between 1859 and 1860. The ledger records when guests paid, observations of guest behaviors, the names of guests, and quick meal recipes that were pasted.

Scope and Content Note

This ledger documents the daily activities at a boarding house that was likely in southern Vermont, but possibly in New Hampshire, between 1859 and 1860. Entries contained the name of guests, the lists of services they utilized, and the amount they paid. Throughout the ledger, newspaper clippings have been pasted in that contain recipes and cures for minor illnesses and injuries. Some pages have come loose from the binding. The final entry in the ledger contains cursive practice and the following page has been ripped out.
