Abstract

These two high school class notebooks were written in 1918 and 1918 by Freda Breymaier of Fort Recovery, Ohio. The first notebook, which has patriotic imagery on its cover, was used in her science laboratory class. The second notebook was used for geography class.

Biographical History

Freda Elnora Breymaier Meyring was born on March 21, 1902 in Gibson, Ohio. She was the daughter of Michael Breymaier (1862 – 1927) and Catherine Green Breymaier (1865 – 1946). Michael was an immigrant born in Baden – Württemberg, Germany. Freda was the eighth of Michael and Catherine’s twelve children.

On October 16, 1929, Freda married Arthur “Art” Meyring. The couple had two children, Ronald Charles Meyring (1933 – 2014) and Robert Meyring (1934 – 1938). Freda and Arthur divorced sometime before 1940.

Freda died on May 4, 1985 at the age of 83. She is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.

Scope and Content Note

These two high school class notebooks were written in 1918 and 1918 by Freda Breymaier of Fort Recovery, Ohio. The first notebook, which has patriotic imagery on its cover, was used in her science laboratory class. The second notebook was used for geography class.

The notebooks are part of the 1918-1919 school year, when Freda was a senior. The science notebook contains several hand drawn diagrams of experiments, and Freda records her observations.  Freda’s geography notebook contains a list of countries with some short historical descriptions. The notebooks are handwritten in pencil.
