Abstract

This collection includes letters from several pre-teen girls to their friend, Patricia Kingsley, from 1970-1974. The girls lived in New Hyde Park and Smithtown, New York. The majority of the letters come from Patricia’s cousin, Judy Pretsch, and talk about dating and daily life. There is a photo of two young girls, unidentified.

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains letters to Patricia Kingsley, a young girl who lived in New Hyde Park, New York from 1970 to 1974. The majority of the letters come from her cousin, Judy Pretsch, who was living in Smithtown, New York at the time. Other letters are ostensibly from friends or other family members. The girls were all around middle school age (11-13 years old) and most of the content is about their daily lives. The girls talk about dating boys, days at school, graduating and entering high school. In addition to the letters is the box they were stored in and an empty candy wrapper (mentioned in a letter.) There is a photo of two young girls, unidentified.
