Abstract

The Dorchester County Historic Preservation files document the many historic buildings and properties that the Maryland Historic Trust helps preserve, primarily through the files and reports maintained by architectural historian, Paul Touart. Touart's files (Series 1) are arranged by property identifier (D-XXX) and commonly include a Maryland Historic Trust report, deeds, photographs, articles, and other relevant sources related to the historic property. Also included are Touart's subsequent reports, handwritten notes, photographic slides, architectural drawing rolls, and CDs containing a variety of files.

Biographical History

Paul Baker Touart is an architectural historian on the lower eastern shore of Maryland who has written historic property reports for many buildings and sites on the Delmarva Peninsula. He earned his BA in art history from the University of Delaware in 1977 and began contract work for the Maryland Historic Trust. His published works of fieldwork and research include Somerset: An Architectural History, Along the Seaboard Side: The Architectural History of Worcester County, and At the Crossroads: The Architectural History of Wicomico County, Maryland.
