Abstract

Norm Conway papers document the budget and management of Maryland’s financial bills. Also, documented are session and major issues reports from meetings over the years and books from the Department of Budget and Management that lays out financial figures. The material dates from 1987-2007 with the bulk dating from 1990-1994.

Biographical History

Norman Conway, also known as Norm, was born in Salisbury, Maryland, January 11, 1942. He is a graduate of Salisbury University (formerly Salisbury State Teachers College) where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1965 and Master’s degree in Education Administration in 1970. Conway taught at Pinehurst Elementary School where he eventually became principal. While teaching, he dreamed of having a political career and it came to fruition in 1974 when he was elected to the Salisbury City Council. Conway eventually became president of the council and held that position 1982-1987. He went on to represent the state of Maryland in the House of Delegates from 1987-2015.

Conway has been part of many committees and organizations over the years, including the Appropriations Committee, which he has been Chairman since 2003. He has devoted his life to helping out the Salisbury community and the state of Maryland. Conway’s mission is to always put others before himself, give service and build the education system. He received the Salisbury University President’s Medal, in 2014 for his service to the school and the state of Maryland. Conway has been married to Jan for over 45 years.
