Abstract

The Clara Small papers include a scholarly paper written by Dr. Small on "The Origins of Slavery in Maryland" on 28 January 2003 and a dedication ceremony program from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore's Jessie Cottman Smith Exhibit Room 14 April 2011.

Biographical History

Dr. Clara Small is a retired History professor specializing in African-American history. She is a prolific writer on Maryland's African-American history.
Jessie Cottman Smith was a graduate of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She is best known as Teacher-Librarian and became the Library Director of the Frederick Douglass Library. She was inducted to the UMES Hall of Fame in 1986 and became a Dean of the school in 1997.
