Abstract

The Adkins Family papers document the well-known Eastern Shore family from Sharptown, Wicomico County, Maryland, 1860-1996 with the bulk of the material dating from 1880-1930. Materials include tintypes and photographic prints of Adkins family members as well as correspondence, genealogical research and corresponding family histories.

Biographical History

The Adkins family, of Sharptown, Wicomico County, Maryland, immigrated to the Eastern Shore in the 17th Century and has maintained strong ties to the Eastern Shore marrying into other well-known families such as the Coopers and the Hurleys.  Stephen Lambert Adkins (1918-2000) was a graduate of Sharptown High School and was stationed in Europe during World War II.
