Abstract

Samuel L. Adkins papers document his life on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, specifically his education, military service, employment at Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company and his personal hobbies with county farms, the Salisbury Coin Club and the Antique Car Club of the Accomack-Northampton Region. Mr. Adkins life is documented via photographs, certificates, and memorabilia from 1885-2009 with the bulk of the material dating from 1950-1987. Materials also of note are bank notes and an agricultural sign relating to his father, A. Paul Adkins.

Biographical History

Samuel L. Adkins (1927-2012) was born in Wango / Parsonsburg, Maryland to A. Paul and Elsie Adkins and was educated at Wicomico County Schools, graduating from Wicomico High School in 1944. Adkins went onto join the United States Army where he served in the 1st Infantry Division, 16th Infantry Regiment. For 34 years he was employed by the A&P Tea Company, he was involved in numerous clubs including the Salisbury Coin Club, the Antique Car Club of the Accomack-Northampton Region and the VFW Post 194.  Samuel Adkins was married to Lillian Adkins for 45 years; after her death, he married Mary Farrell.
