Abstract

The NASA Wallops Flight Center collection contains material on Wallops Flight Facility, early space missions, and various NASA research centers accomplishments. Items included are magazine’s, newspaper clippings, achievements, photographs and the book NASA Reference Publication 1028 “A New Dimension Wallops Island Flight Test Range: The First Fifteen Years”.

Administrative History

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is an organization that was founded to progress American exploration into space science and human flight. NASA has furthered technology and science with their various spaceflights and research. NASA’s first project of major importance was Project Mercury. This project was run primarily to find out if humans could survive in outer space. This project triggered Project Gemini which was then followed by Project Apollo. Apollo succeeded in proving that humans could fly to the moon and survive walking on the moon as well. After Apollo came the Space Shuttle Program which was launched into space and would continue 30 years after, later becoming the International Space Station. NASA continues to make breakthrough discoveries and advance knowledge on life beyond Earth.
