Abstract

The White and Leonard Drugstore records documents the changing storefront window displays through a series of photographs from 1932-1955 in Salisbury, Md. The photographs depict the various types of goods sold, but also highlight storefront design and marketing tools used by businesses. The collection also contains a scrapbook that documents White and Leonard’s newspaper ads during the 1950s. Furthermore the collection documents the Salisbury bicentennial parade in 1932 and local shows that aired on television.

Administrative History

The White and Leonard Drugstore opened in the late nineteenth century. It was located at the intersection of Main Street and St. Peter Street in the downtown area of Salisbury, Maryland. The proprietors of the store where E. Riall White and James F. Leonard.  Initially, White and Leonard was a drugstore but eventually transitioned to a stationary and office supply store.  White and Leonard operated in a two-story building; on one level they sold stationery and toys, on the other level they offered mimeograph courses and sold office supplies.
