Abstract

The Dennis Family photographs document the lives of Camilla Dennis, a Worcester County native, and Martha Groton, Camilla’s daughter. The photographs date from 1892 to 2007 and depict the Dennis family through a series of portraits as well as activities held at 207 East Isabella Street in Salisbury, Maryland. Published works within the collection reveal ties to Robert Naylor Roger’s Scottish clan ancestry.

Biographical History

Ruby Camilla Dennis (1915-1990), Camilla as she was known, was born in Newark, Maryland to parents Martha (Mattie) Dennis (1879-1967) and Eugene Dennis (1874-1934) of Worcester County. Camilla Dennis married Robert Naylor Rogers VII in the 1930s and moved to Hollywood, California where Robert lived and worked as a radio station announcer. Camilla and Robert moved to Camden Avenue in Salisbury, Maryland in the 1930s-1940s and had a daughter, Martha Eugenia Roberts in 1941. Martha Eugenia Rogers married Ronald Earl Groton (b.1938) at Asbury United Methodist Church on July 23, 1959 and held the reception at her parents’ home at 207 East Isabella Street, Salisbury, Maryland. Martha Groton and Ronald Groton had a daughter, Martha “Beth” Elizabeth Mohr, during the 1960s who lives in Salisbury, Maryland.
