Abstract

Robert Withey Interiors Inc. records documents the interior design business once located in Salisbury, Maryland as well as associated projects with the Maryland Historical Trust, 1950-2006. Materials include handwritten ledgers, receipts, and invoices documenting the financial progression of the design firm. In addition to these materials are documents from the Maryland Historical Trust Teackle Mansion restoration project and include correspondence and other assorted ephemera. Also, there is an issue of Benjaminews, a local women’s store from April 1947.

Administrative History

In 1953, C. Robert Withey began Robert Withey Interiors, Inc., an interior design firm in Salisbury, Maryland.  Withey operated the business until 1979 when his son, Robert Withey, Jr. took over the business until it closed in 2003. In the early 1980s, the Maryland Historical Trust with the help of Robert Withey restored the Teackle Mansion located in Princess Anne, Maryland.  Today, Robert Withey, Jr., works as a consultant, appraiser and antique dealer in Florida.

Series I: Administrative Records, documents the financial and contractual aspects of the interior design.

Series II: Restoration Projects, documents the involvement of Robert Withey Interiors Inc., and in various Maryland Historic Trust projects.
