Abstract

The Thomas W. Davis papers document the activities of the Davis, Truitt, and Dennis families of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, including Pittsville and Salisbury of Wicomico County, and Ocean City, of Worcester County. Additionally, photographs documenting their time spent in Claiborne, Maryland and Wauchula, Florida. The materials date from 1880-1970 with the bulk of the material dating from 1910-1945. The Davis family is documented through photographs, including tintypes, artifacts, baptismal certificates, newspaper clippings, an autograph book, bank check and receipt and other ephemera.

Biographical History

The Davis Family lived in Pittsville, Wicomico County, Maryland for several generations. Thomas W. Davis was born on September 30, 1884. He was the son of Joseph G. Davis and Elizabeth Gertrude “Gattie” Davis. Thomas was an eastern shore produce broker and the owner of T.W. Davis Company in Pittsville.  In 1954, he became the President of the Truckers and Savings Bank in Pittsville, Maryland.
