The NASA Wallops Flight Center collection contains material on Wallops Flight Facility, the NASA Eastern Shore facility on Wallops Island. Items included are a NASA Visitor Center brochure, a NASA On-Line Educational Resources hand-out, Information Summaries newsletter, photographs of a Black Brant XII Sounding Rocket, and a Scientific Balloon and a booklet titled Wallops and the War for Independence. In addition, there is a booklet about the Chincoteague Toll Road and Bridge Company.

NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's Wallops Flight Facility, located on Virginia's Eastern Shore, was established in 1945 by the National advisory Committee for Aeronautics, as a center for aeronautic research. From 1945-1957, Wallops was instrumental in providing the foundation for aerodynamic and heat transfer research by establishign a high speed aeronautical launch site that used rockets to propel aircraft models. From 1958-1974, research conducted at Wallops involved developing components for the manned space program. From 1975-1981, acted as a launch site for suborbital and orbital vehicles as well as studies on Earth and ocean processes and aircraft noise reduction. From 1982-1998, became the principal facility for management and implementation of suborbital research programs.
