Abstract

Merchant ledger that once belonged to Marcellus Jones, owner of a general store in Whitehaven, Maryland. The ledger, dating from 1835-1836, documents the types of goods purchased by residents and include tobacco, coffee, boots, postage, and sugar. Also noted throughout the ledger is the race of an individual if they are of African American descent.

Biographical History

Capt. Marcellus Jones, (1796-1846); was married to Mary Hughes Jones (1792-1863), January 1815.
