Abstract

Attendance record register from Somerset County, Maryland, 1911-1916 of School Number Four, District Seven. The records include students names, days present and absent, age, grade, date of entrance or withdrawal, and how many miles from school the students live.

Administrative History

The 1911-1916 Somerset County Register was used to record the attendance of students. According to this particular Register, Naomi B. Tawes was the school teacher who kept the recorded attendance of her students. While the name of the school is not stated anywhere, Naomi B. Tawes was known to live in the Crisfield, Maryland area in Somerset County. Stated on the first page of the register, "Teachers shall keep, preserve and enter into the Register prepared for that purpose an accurate account of the attendance of pupils, textbooks used and branches taught, and such other statistics as may be required, and make due returns thereof to the Board of County School Commissioners at the end of each Term, and no teacher shall be entitled to receive payment for services until the Register, properly filled up and completed, be so returned."
