Abstract

The papers of Mr. Fulton Allen document his personal interests which include folk art, travel, and theater as a resident of Salisbury, Maryland from 1920-1970s. Records include a scrapbook from Mr. Allen’s travels to the West Indies in 1937 with his friend, Conrad Long, as well as photographs and a cast list from the Wicomico Community Players, a local theater group which held productions at Wicomico High School. A second scrapbook features collected magazine covers and advertisements from varying periodicals 1929-1945. Also included are a series of pamphlets providing information on new pharmaceuticals, health benefits and social issues.

Biographical History

Fulton W. Allen (1892-1969) was the son of farmer William F. and Mattie P. Allen. Mr. Allen was a partial owner of W.F. Allen and Company, growers of peaches, strawberries and other fruits. His business practices coincided with his keen interest in horticulture. Mr. Allen was married to Lois Jennings Allen (1893-1974) and had four children.
