This collection consists of (8) boxes containing miscellaneous documents collected (and in some cases written by) local historian, J. Howard Adkins. The collection spans primarily the 19th and 20th centuries with material drawn from a variety of commercial, cultural and religious enterprises primarily related to Delmarva, but also including references to Baltimore, Wilmington and Philadelphia. A smaller portion of the collection includes documents sourced from the National Society DAR Library in Washington, D.C. outlining members of the local militia (Somerset, Worcester and Dorchester Counties) who took “Oaths of Fidelity”during the American Revolutionary period and the War of 1812, locally written histories of Riverton, Salisbury, Vienna, Sharptown, Mardela, Barren Creek, the Bradley family among others.
This collection consists of (8) boxes containing miscellaneous documents collected (and in some cases written by) local historian, J. Howard Adkins. The collection also includes rosters of the names of Christians buried across selected Delmarva Protestant church cemeteries; booklets outlining minutes of Annual Conferences of the Methodist Church on Delmarva (sometimes conducted in locations outside the Delmarva Peninsula) from 1886 to 1977; and sets of professionally printed, handstitched volumes of a cultural series entitled, “Little Journeys to the Homes of…..” with titles added to include “Great Scientists,” “Great Reformers,” “Great Lovers,” “Great Teachers,” “Great Musicians,” and “Great Business Men” dated 1901-1909.

1/5 Eastern Shore of Maryland Counties’ enrollment of men serving in the War of 1812 era cavalry, militia, and as volunteers
1/6 (9) files feature Eastern Shore Protestant church burial ground records from cemeteries associated with the Southern Baptist Church (between Snow Hill and Pocomoke), Mt. Olive Methodist Protestant Church, Mt. Zion Protestant Church, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Berlin, St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, Rehoboth Episcopal, Rehoboth Presbyterian, and Bates Memorial Methodist Protestant Church spanning 19th and 20th C. The 9th and largest file entitled, “Old burial Grounds in Worcester Co., Maryland On the Eastern Shore” is dated 1937 and features records from the above church burial sites as well as the Methodist Episcopal Church of Snow Hill and Makemie Memorial Presbyterian, in Snow Hill.
