Abstract

The collection contains four posters from the Zapatista or EZLN Indigenous movement in Mexico, circa 1990s.

Administrative History

The Zapatista rebellion, also known as the EZLN, took place in 1994 due to the mistreatment and exclusion of the many Indigenous peoples in Mexico. They did not believe that the Mexican government was meeting their needs or fulfilling their interests. They formed the National Indigenous Congress in 1996 and took political action to bring change to the Indigenous community. As of 2022, the movement continues to support the Indigenous peoples of Mexico. 

Scope and Content Note

The collection contains four different Mexican resistance posters written in Spanish that date circa 1990s. The posters demonstrate the Indigenous people's perspective on how they were dissatisfied with the government and wanted change to reflect their needs.
