Abstract

The Grace United Methodist Church Records contains records of the Church from 1925-2021. The records include baptisms and marriages conducted by the church, quarterly conference papers, information on members, and other articles on the history of Grace United Methodist Church. A majority of the articles reference those who were in service to the Church.

Administrative History

The first service at Grace Methodist Church was held on Sunday, October 11, 1908 in a house that sits behind the present day, Grace United Methodist Church. The church building was completed in 1910. Grace United Methodist was founded by Reverend John W. Hardesty, who was exploring for a place to build a church that would serve the community and God. He decided on a lot in East Salisbury because he stated that the voice of God told him, “here is the place.” The church was named after his daughter, Grace Hardesty. Grace United Methodist Church continues to serve the Salisbury community today.

Scope and Content Note

The Grace United Methodist records document the history of this East Salisbury church.  The records range from 1925 to 2021 and include things such as marriage and baptism records, hymns sung and scriptures read during service, quarterly conference papers, a timeline of all the pastors, pictures of how the church progressed overtime, and news articles written about the church.
