Abstract

The Upper Shore Genealogical Society records contains newspapers, newsletters, and publications from the Upper Shore Genealogical Society as well as organizational documents, such as meeting minutes, secretary reports, membership materials and research documents. In addition, the collection includes publications of the Eastern Shore Episcopalian. The collection ranges from 1982-2004 with secondary content relating to the 18th and 19th centuries.

Administrative History

The Upper Shore Genealogy Society was founded in 1973 and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It is located in Greensboro, Maryland and covers families from Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot Counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Scope and Content Note

The  Upper Shore Genealogical Society records consists of organizational documents from the Genealogical Society such as executive, general, secretary, and treasurer meeting notes from 1995-1996. In addition, the collection contains publications by the Society including: Chesapeake Cousins newspapers(1995-2004), the Upper Shore Genealogical Society newsletter (1982-1996), the Cousin to Cousin newsletter (1996-2001), Tombstoning Kent and Talbot County, Member Surname lists, Vital Records, Record of the Military Service of U.S. Volunteer Colored Troops War of 1861-1865 From Queen Annes County Maryland (1983), Chester Parish Records, Endeavors and Exertions of Queen Annes County, Maryland, During the Revolutionary War: 1775-1783 (1976), Hillsborough Circuit M. E. Church Records: 1860-1890 (2010), History of Crumpton . There are also copies of The Eastern Shore Churchman from 1968-1993 and the Eastern Shore Episcopalian from May 1993 - June 2006.

Arrangement Statement

This collection is arranged into two series.

Series 1: Administrative Records contains records such as meeting minutes, reports, receipts, correspondence, anniversary events, membership documents, and other research information.

 

Series 2: Publications is separated into two subseries, Subseries 2.1 Genealogical Publications and Subseries 2.2 Newspapers and Newsletters.

                Subseries 2.1: Genealogical Publications includes loose and bound manuscripts containing genealogical information, tombstone lists, and military records.

                Subseries 2.2: Newspapers and Newsletters consists of the Chesapeake Cousins Newspaper, Upper Shore Genealogical Society Newsletter, Cousin to Cousin Newsletter, The Eastern Shore Churchman and The Eastern Shore Episcopalian.
