Abstract

The Peninsula General Hospital Auxiliary Board Collection, consists of scrapbooks, records, and booklets pertaining to the Peninsula General Hospital’s Junior Auxiliary Board and Senior Ladies Auxiliary. The Scrapbooks are comprised of photos, newspaper clippings, and letters depicting programs and initiatives carried out by the Junior Auxiliary Board over the years.

Biographical History

Founded in 1924, the Junior Auxiliary Board is a volunteer organization for Tidal Health's Peninsula Regional Medical Center. In addition to volunteering to help patients the Junior Auxilliary Board also provides a restaurant and gift shop for the patients and their family and friends will all proceeds being donated back to the hospital.

 

Scope and Content Note

This collection is comprised of twenty-three scrapbooks containing information pertaining to the Peninsula General Hospital Junior Auxiliary Board, ranging from 1931 to 2002. The scrapbooks contain photos, newspaper articles, event programs, and other documents relating to the Junior Auxiliary Board, its members, as well as events and projects involving and carried out by the Board. In addition to the scrapbooks, the collection also contains the minutes recorded from the Junior Auxiliary Board meetings from 1924 through 1980 as well as minutes from the Senior Ladies Auxiliary’s meetings from 1927 to 1954.

Series I is comprised of minutes from the Junior Auxiliary Board dating from 1949 through 1980. Series I also contains the minutes from the Senior Ladies Auxiliary meetings from 1927 through 1954.

Series II contains pamphlets from the 1962 Junior Board Follies, as well as membership booklets from 1959 through 1977. Series II also contains a 1997 centennial booklet for the Peninsula Medical Center.

Series III is comprised of twenty-three scrapbooks ranging from 1931 to 2002. The scrapbooks contain documents such as letters, Junior Auxiliary Board newsletters, newspaper articles and pamphlets from orchestrated by the Junior Auxiliary Board. The Scrapbooks also house photos of the organization’s past members as well as photos of the events carried out by the Junior Auxiliary Board.

Arrangement Statement

The collection is comprised of three series. Each series is organized by subject then sorted chronologically.  Series I: Senior Ladies Auxiliary minutes, Peninsula General Hospital Auxiliary Board Minutes. Series II: Junior Board Follies program, Junior Auxiliary Board of Peninsula General Hospital Member handbooks, Peninsula Medical Center Centennial booklet. Series III: Scrapbooks from 1931 through 2002 containing newsletters, newspaper clippings, and photographs of Junior Auxiliary members. 

Series I and Series II are both stored in Box 1, Series III is divided among eleven oversized boxes.
