Abstract

The Hodgman Family Journals document the lives of Hellena (Hellen) Hauserman and Kendrick Hodgman from 1875 to 1932 in sixteen journals. Two of the journals are written by Hellen in 1875 and 1876 prior to her marriage to Kendrick and describe her daily activities on her family's farm in Parma, Ohio. Thirteen of the journals are written by Kendrick, from 1891 and 1919-1932, about his daily activities in Ohio. The last journal's author is unknown but chronicles the Hodgman family's history from 1875 to 1932.

Biographical History

Hellena (Hellen) Louise Hauserman was born April 25, 1854 to Robert Hauserman and Angeline Snell Hauserman in Parma, Ohio. She lived with her parents and two brothers, Frederick and William George, until her marriage on October 12, 1881 to Kendrick Kane Hodgman.

Kendrick Hodgman was born April 26, 1852 to Robert Hodgman and Julia Ann Beels Hodgman.

Together, Kendrick and Hellen had four children: Merton W. Hodgman (1891-1986), Hazel Hodgman Eynon (1885-1950), Orin Hodgman (1890-1890), and Kenneth E. Hodgman (1882-1970).

Kendrick died in 1934 and Hellen died in 1940.

Scope and Content Note

The Hodgman Family Journals document the lives of Hellena (Hellen) Hauserman and Kendrick Hodgman from 1875 to 1932 in sixteen journals.  Two of the journals are written by Hellen in 1875 and 1876 prior to her marriage to Kendrick and describe her daily activities on her family's farm in Parma, Ohio.  Thirteen of the journals are written by Kendrick, from 1891 and 1919-1932, about his daily activities in Ohio. The last journal's author is unknown but chronicles the Hodgman family's history from 1875 to 1932.
