Abstract

The Eastern Shore Cultural Ephemera collection ranges from 1769-1991 contains newspaper clippings, overviews, maps, brochures and publications that focus on the Eastern shore. There are three series: The History of the Eastern Shore, Maps and Overviews of the Eastern Shore, and Publications. The collection also contains a book documenting the history of the Maryland Road systems, reproduced maps from 1769 to 1812, and even a church yearbook and directory.

Scope and Content Note

The Eastern Shore Cultural Ephemera collection ranges from 1769-1991 and is divided into three series: The History of the Eastern Shore, Maps and Overviews of the Eastern Shore, and Publications. This collection documents the history of the Eastern Shore and includes overviews of the area.

The first series, The History of the Eastern Shore, that ranges from 1958 to 1965. This series includes a portfolio from the Curtis Paper Company that contains art inspired by the Eastern Shore. There is also a brochure of historical symbols of Maryland and an article about Baltimore Clipper Ships. There is a book that documents the history of Maryland roads that includes maps and charts of the roads. 

The second series is Maps and Overviews of the Eastern Shore and ranges from 1769 to 1976. This series contains maps and two pamphlets that focus on the Eastern shore. The maps are not originals, but are reproduced from 1769 to 1812. They show the Delmarva area, mostly Maryland and Delaware. The pamphlet from the Eastern Shore Society was designed to document the history of the area. This particular edition contains an address from a congressman and meeting notes. The Lower Eastern Shore: An Overview pamphlet contains information on Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester counties.

The third series is Publications and ranges from 1915 to 1991. This series contains a newspaper clipping, an article from National Geographic, and a Wicomico High School Graduation Program from 1944. In addition, there is a yearbook and a directory from the Trinity Methodist Church and a Chipman Cultural Center Newsletter from 1991. 

Arrangement Statement

The Eastern Shore Cultural Ephemera Collection is arranged into three series: (Series 1) History of the Eastern Shore, (Series 2) Maps and Overviews of the Eastern Shore, and (Series 3) Publications.
