Abstract

The Famous Black American Poster set contains seven posters printed in 1985 and 1986 depicting famous African Americans in different professional roles including: Leaders, Generals and Admirals, Entertainers (Part 1 and 2), Scientists, Educators, and Writers.

Administrative History

The Famous Black American Poster Series are based on paintings and murals by artist James Huff, commissioned by Nabisco Brands, Inc. As of 1968, the original pieces were donated to various institutions found below:

  • Famous Black American Leaders - on permanent exhibit at the Martin Luther King, Jr., Center for Non-Violent Social Change in Atlanta, Georgia
  • Famous Black American Generals and Admirals mural - presented to Tuskegee University for display in the General Daniel "Chappie" James Center for Aerospace Science and Health Education
  • Famous Black American Entertainers Part 1 and Part 2 - donated to the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts
  • Famous Black American Scientist - on permanent exhibit at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia
  • Famous Black American Educators - on permanent exhibit at Mary McLeod Bethune Museum and National Archives for Black Women's History/National Council of Negro Women, Washington, D.C. 
  • Famous Black American Writers - on permanent exhibit at Clark College, in Atlanta, Georgia
