Abstract

The Charles Thornton collection consists of a 1995 draft of a research paper on John Tull, Worcester County shipwright, 1752-1820.

Biographical History

John Tull was born on December 12, 1752 in Somerset County, Maryland. He moved to Worcester County, Maryland and worked as a shipwright. During the Revolutionary War, Tull served as a corporal in the 2nd Maryland Regiment of the Continental Line. In 1772, he married Martha Wood and the couple had eight children: Susan, James, Isaac, John, Samuel, Levi, Sarah and Joseph. Tull died in circa 1820 in Worcester County, Maryland.
