Abstract

Color postcard of the Agricultural Building at State College, Pennsylvania (Pennsylvania State University), 1910. The handwritten card from Walter K. Allen to Ralph O. Dulany documents the relationship between the children of two of the Eastern Shore's largest plant producers.

Biographical History

Walter K. Allen (c.1892-1925) was the son of William F. and Martha Allen, President of W.F. Allen and Company, who sold live berry plants across the Eastern seaboard. Allen eventually donated the property that would become the Salisbury State Normal School. 

Ralph O. Dulany (1893-1981), served in the First World War as a member of the United States Army; he was the son of John H. and Emma Dulany. Dulany eventually would helm John H. Dulany and Son, Inc., one of the largest plant and canned goods producers in Fruitland, Maryland.
