Abstract

This collection consists of World War II aviation material belonging to Captain John C. Palmer from 1941 to 1946. Included are four yearbooks "Wings Aloft" from the Lubbock Army Flying School in Lubbock, TX from 1943 to 1944, a pilot flight logbook from 1941 to 1945 and a flight record book from 1941 to 1946.  

Biographical History

John C. Palmer (1917-2001) served as an instructor at Lubbock Flight School in Lubbock, TX during World War II. In 1943, he served in the 496th TEFTS. In 1944, he was was the Operations Officer of the 1st Provisional Training Squadron with a rank of Captain. He has been a student or instructor at Muskogee, OK, Randolph Field, TX, Ellington Field, TX, Lubbock Army Air Base and Scott Field, IL. He was trained to pilot several aircraft, including Fairchild PT-19, North American Aviation BT-9, North American Aviation T-6 (AT-6A and BC-1), Curtiss-Wright AT-9 Jeep (AT-9 and UC-78), Cessna AT-17 Bobcat, Vultee BT-13 Valiant, PT-17 Stearman "Kaydet", Aeronca L-3, Beechcraft AT-10 Wichita, North American B-25 Mitchell (B-25 and  AT-24), Douglas A-20/DB-7 Havoc, Avro Anson (AT-20), Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress (B-17G), Beechcraft Model 18 (AT-7 Navigator and AT-11 Kansan). He died in Pocomoke City, MD.
