Abstract

Proclamation. A 1987 Modern Printing Co proclamation titled "County Council of Wicomico County, Maryland Proclamation." The proclamation describes Seth H. Hurdle, a renowned doctor in Wicomico County, and his many achievements in the health field. The Wicomico County Health Department's newest facility was named the Seth H. Hurdle Building.

Biographical History

Seth H. Hurdle served as the first health officer in Wicomico County in 1932. He was a renowned doctor in the Salisbury area working at Peninsula General Hospital or known today as Peninsula Regional Medical Center and being at the forefront of leading the fight against many threatening diseases at the time such as typhoid fever, diptheria, tuberculosis, and polio. The community of Salisbury saw the health standards improve drastically because of the work of Dr. Hurdle. Dr. Hurdle also held many leadership positions in the Salisbury area including the Administrator of Peninsual General Hospital, Administrator of Pine Bluff Sanitorium, served on the Board of United Funt, the Board of the Eastern Shore Blood Bank, and the Board of the Wicomico County Mental Health Association.
