This collection contains personal memorabilia of Amanda Virginia Ayres Spencer Satterfield. Included are two scrapbooks relating to her high school experience at Ocean City (MD) High School from 1932 to 1939. In addition there is a ledger book from the Ambassador Apartments/Hotel from 1941 to 1944 which her father, Samuel Jacob Ayres owned and she later owned. The scrapbooks highlight her many activities, love interests and trips while at school. The ledger documents the guests who stayed at the hotel and the revenue accumulated during that period.

Amanda Virginia Ayres Spencer Satterfield (1921-2007) was born in Whaleyville, Worcester County, MD and graduated in 1938 from Ocean City (MD) High School. She had taught at McDonogh School in McDonogh, Md. for 17 years and in the public school system for 17 years in Worcester and Baltimore counties from 1950 to 1982. She had owned and operated the Ambassador Apartments/Hotel in Ocean City for many years with her son, Thomas Spencer, III. She first married Thomas Spencer, Jr. ca. 1941. In 1974, she married Thomas Crosby Satterfield. She was the daughter of Samuel Jacob Ayres (1889-1954) and Dellie Moore Collins (1886-1977) and sister of Denward Collins Ayres (1914-1975). Her father was a railroad agent for the Baltimore, Chesapeake and Altantic Railway Company from 1910 to 1924. Around 1924, he built the Safe Garage, a garage to store automobiles to protect them from the ocean's salt air. In  1936, he built a house for his family at 505 N. Baltimore Avenue. In 1941, he tore down the garage and built the Ambassador Apartments and Rooms, now known as the Ambassador Motor Inn.
