Abstract

This collection contains two poster-size map illustrations of the Normandy Theater during World War II, and the French-Belgian Theater of late 1944. The collection also includes one copy of the June 3rd, 1944 edition of the Parris Island Boot.

Administrative History

The 29th Infantry was named the "Blue and Grey" due to the division being comprised of soldiers from states on both sides of the American Civil War. They thought in WWI, and took part in Operation Overlord and the subsequent landing at Normandy. At the conclusion of World War Two, the unit was demobilized and turned into a National Guard Unit based in Virginia. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, the 29th Infantry had troops deployed into active service in Iraq, but the headquarters remained in Virginia.
