Abstract

Vernon Shay papers document the life and work of Vernon Shay, who was involved in the Civilian Conservation Corps, 1933-1937, as well as an Army battalion member in World War II. Documenting materials include photographs of Shay, a CCC yearbook, as well as Grace United Methodist Church pamphlets, 1958 and 1970.

Biographical History

Vernon Shay was born in Oak Hall, Virginia on April 28, 1909. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Virginia. He was a World War II army veteran and was a member of the Grace Methodist Church. He died of a heart attack on November 6, 1966 in Salisbury, Maryland, where he owned and operated Shay's Service Station.
