Abstract

This collection contains photocopies of materials referring to the "Claggett Society of Maryland" and the mitre of Bishop Claggett from the Diocese of Maryland.

Administrative History

The Mitre was presented to the first Bishop, Thomas John Claggett (1742-1816), consecrated in America. The Mitre was one of the first made in the Anglican Communion after the Reformation. The Claggett Society of Maryland formed around 1847.
