Abstract

These stereograph photos from First World War depict battlefronts, civilian life, ruins, trench warfare and trench life in Europe from 1914 to 1918.

Scope and Content Note

This collection is a set of 94 stereograph photos from First World War. The images include scenes of No Man’s Land, ruins around Europe, civilian life, soldiers at rest, fortification, trenches and weaponry. A majority of the photos come from Italy, The Balkans, France and Serbia. The collection includes several portraits of high ranking individuals (Marshal Joffre, Marshall Haige, General Antoine, and President Poincare). Specific locations mentioned are the Saloniki front, Verdun, the Argonne forest, the Somme front, Reims and Chemin des Dames. Majority photos depict British or French troops. Items #26 to 30 and #47 are missing
