Abstract

The Howard and Marvin E. Cox Ledger and Journal contains detailed handwritten vital information on individuals in Nanticoke and other Wicomico County communities, in addition to narratives recorded by Howard and Marvin Cox. Included are records listing marriages (1865-1979) and deaths (1838-1982) with a separate section for African American deaths (1898-1980). At the end of the ledger is a journal written by Marvin Cox from 1918 to 1964 describing the oyster and construction business in the community, including the meeting minutes of the Willing Workers of Nanticoke. The entire ledger is transcribed and attached to the finding aid.

Biographical History

Marvin Edwin Cox (1896-1982), son of Horace H. Cox (1868-1939) and Derena May Wallace (1875-1946), was born in Tyaskin, Wicomico County, MD. Had two brothers, Harry E. (1897-1905) and William H. (b1904). Marvin married Lois Clayton Bloxom (1901-1961). He remarried in 1962 to Mary Kelly (1899-1982). William H. Cox married Blanch White (1905-1974). 
Horace H. Cox and Derena May Wallace married in 1894.
