Abstract

The papers of J. Marshall Stewart document his career with Victor Lynn Lines as well as his civic service to the Eastern Shore and the city of Baltimore from 1940-1966. His activities are documented via photographs, certificates and artifacts that include an 1801 reproduction map of the city of Baltimore and a Baltimore sesquicentennial commemorative plate. Also included is an extensive family history of the Andrew and Joanne Stewart Hall family which includes memoirs from associated family members and was produced in 2008.

Biographical History

 J. Marshall Stewart (1899-1977) was born in Baltimore and served in varying capacities until he took up employment in 1952 for Victor Lynn Lines as Vice President and General Manager and relocated his family to Salisbury.  He later served in the same capacity for the Delmarva Division of Eastern Freightways. In addition to his professional life, Mr. Stewart served as Chairman of the Ocean City Convention Hall Commission and on numerous other varying commissions and boards. Mr. Stewart was married to the former Margaret Sjolander and had six children.
