Abstract

The Dinsmore-Turner scrapbook collection documents Robert Turner and his sweetheart, later wife, Marjorie Dinsmore Turner high school years from 1937 to 1941, their families, and their marriage and wedding in St. Clairsville, Ohio. Additional photographs detailing Robert being drafted, his military career, his death and his official burial arrangements in 1944 and commemoration 1947-1948. There are also photographs of their only child from 1944 to 1946.

Biographical History

Robert L. Turner and Marjorie Turner lived in St Clairsville, Ohio.  Robert was born on November 30, 1921. He attended and played football at Ohio State University from 1940- 1942.  He was drafted in 1943 into the 15th Army Air Force, 774th Bomb Squad, 463rd Group.  He was shot down and killed while piloting a B-17 bomber over Romania on August 19, 1944. His body was interred in Arlington National Cemetery on December 2, 1948.  Marjorie attended Mississippi State University in 1943 while Robert was in Air Force training in San Antonio, Texas.
