Abstract

Louis F. Collins papers document his life while serving in the United States Army with the material dating from 1942-1960 with the bulk of the material dating from 1942-1946. Also, included in this collection, are certificates and diplomas from Louis and his wife Irene relating to education, will, and financial records from their life in Powellville, Wicomico County, Maryland.

Biographical History

Louis Franklin Collins was born in Powellville, Maryland on September 18, 1918, to Maggie and Charley Collins. He entered the United States Army on May 17, 1943, having a grammar school education. Collins was part of the Anti-Tank Co. 156th Infantry and became a decorated Army Veteran. After being honorably discharged in October 1943, he returned to school to receive his high school diploma in 1951and hotel training diploma in 1952. Mr. Collins was married to Irene Culver Collins. They had one daughter Anne Collins. Today, there is a scholarship in Irene Culver Collins and Louis Franklin Collins honor awarded to a high school senior from Parkside High School.
