Abstract

The papers of C. Kay Larson document her extensive research into the life and writings of Anna Ella Carroll and other important figures from the Civil War era including Maryland Governor Thomas H. Hicks from 2000-2003. Documenting materials include photocopies of articles and correspondence written by Carroll, as well as images and references to her family’s home, Kingston Hall, located in Somerset County, Maryland.

Biographical History

C. Kay Larson, a native mid-westerner, has been engrossed in Civil War history since her childhood. Larson has conducted research on Anna Ella Carroll and non-traditional women’s roles in the Civil War, ultimately producing several published articles and books. In addition to her work on the Civil War, Larson has also written on the women’s role in military work during World War II. Larson received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her MBA from Baruch College, City University of New York. Ms. Larson has held executive staff positions and consulting positions for New York City and state governments as well as serving on four presidential campaigns.
