The papers of Leslie Dryden document his and Henry Francis Dryden’s extensive genealogical research on the Dryden, Adkins, and Fleming families from 1931-1992, with the bulk of the materials from 1932-1945. Materials include correspondence from Henry Francis and Leslie to relatives to glean family history as well as corresponding genealogical research, Eastern Shore newsletters, and Henry Francis’ manuscript of his family genealogy.
Leslie P. Dryden (1914-1992) was born in West Post Office, Somerset County, Maryland to Samuel and Nova Dryden. He married Leona A. Endlich (1918-2005) in Baltimore, Maryland in 1934 and received his education at George Washington and American Universities graduating in 1947 and 1961. Dryden went on to work for the United States Department of Agriculture as a biochemist. In his spare time, Mr. Dryden transcribed summaries of public records, correspondence and newspaper information of families on Maryland’s Eastern Shore into a 1,800 surname-based set of handwritten records.
Series I: Correspondence
Series II: Genealogical Research
The Leslie Dryden papers have been arranged into two series, CORRESPONDENCE and GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH. Correspondence documents the relaying of genealogical history between Henry Francis Dryden and his distant relatives in his effort to write a family history. This was also continued by Leslie Dryden in Maryland. Both Henry Francis and Leslie corresponded with various people from 1932-1985. Genealogical research documents the compiled information by Henry Francis and Leslie Dryden on their family’s history.
