Abstract

The Mount Family papers exhibits a 19th century household living in Spence, Worcester County, Maryland. The series of documents, dates from 1860-1897, and contains deeds of their property on Public Landing road, family bible records, and a dissembled scrapbook including portraits on tin types, carte de visites, and cabinet cards.

Biographical History

George McDowell Mount (1852-1927) was born in Middlesex County, New Jersey and moved to Snow Hill, Worcester County, Maryland.  In 1873, he married Mary Virginia Sturgis (1854-1932) and had six children together, William J., Charles, George, Phebe, James, and Mary.  George worked as a merchant and blacksmith, and his children took similar vocational paths.
