Abstract

Avery W. Hall papers document Hall’s participation as a civic leader in Salisbury Maryland and surrounding regions from 1853-1889, 1932-1982 with the bulk of the material dating from 1945-1970. Hall’s leadership is identified through a series of political memorabilia including correspondence from Governor Millard Tawes and Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. Also included in the collection are booklets from Avery W. Hall Insurance Agency relating to Peninsula Regional Hospital and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Project.

Biographical History

Avery W. Hall (1899-1990) founded the Avery W. Hall Insurance Agency Company in Salisbury, Maryland in 1925. Hall was also an Eastern Shore Civic Leader. He served as former chairperson of the commissioners of the Maryland Port Authority (1968-1971), chairperson of the Wicomico County Welfare Board, Boardman of the Wicomico Children's Home, member of the Incinerator and Sewage Plant Commission, and served on the board that built the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center. He received honorary doctorates from Washington College and Salisbury State as well as was a member of Delta Mu Delta. Avery W. Hall Insurance Company Inc. received the best Insurance Agency in Wicomico County award in 2015.
