The Margaret Stone papers are comprised of genealogy research conducted by Margaret Stone and relate to many different Wicomico County, Maryland families focusing specifically on the linage of Elihu and Annie “Nannie” Rider Jackson. Also contained within the collection are materials related to the Jackson Lumber Company of Riderwood, Alabama and Tony Tank Manor. In addition, there are items related to Ehliu Jackson’s political career. The materials date from 1895, 1982-2000, specifically documenting when Ms. Stone conducted her genealogical research.

Margaret Stone was born in Salisbury, Maryland in 1926; she was the great-granddaughter of the former Maryland Governor Elihu Jackson. Margaret spent the majority of her life in Salisbury, and grew up at her family’s home, Tony Tank Manor. She received her formal education at the Greenwood School in Baltimore, Maryland.  After graduating high school in 1943, she attended Mount Vernon Junior College for Women in Washington, D.C. which is now a part of George Washington University.   In 1951, Margaret married Henry Baldwin Stone the couple spent the early part of their marriage in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Eventually the couple would settle in Salisbury, Maryland. They had two daughters Lydia Stone Kimball and Dorothy Stone Elder. Margaret was the first director of Social Service at Peninsula General Hospital, retiring in 1982.  Margaret was an avid genealogist and was dedicated to the preservation of homes in Wicomico County, Maryland. Margaret was also involved in the community she was a Friend of Poplar Hill Mansion and was involved with the Community Players, Newtown Association, Deer’s Head Hospital, Pemberton Hall, and Joseph House. Margaret was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury, Maryland.  Margaret Stone passed away at the age of 82 in 2008.
