Folklife Collection - Untitled [Eastern Shore Crabbers]

In 1992, former Salisbury University student Stephen C. Bynum collected folk material surrounding the commercial crabbing on the Eastern Shore. In this paper, he explains the different methods used to catch crabs. To supplement his project, he interviewed a couple of watermen to learn about the procedures of constructing crab-pots, a vanishing craft as more and more crabbers purchased their pots. The interviews reveal how crabbers adapt their practices to the changes in the environment, natural and economic. Tapes and photographs enclosed.
