Scrapbook of Ethel Barguet

The Scrapbook of Ethel Barguet was compiled between 1891 and 1901. Barguet, who was an 1891 graduate of the Fifth Avenue Grammar School in Mount Vernon, New York, worked as a "play room teacher" with the Children's Aid Society in New York City. Barguet was also invited to continue her work with the Episcopal City Mission in Boston. The scrapbook consists of invitations to social gatherings in upstate New York, New York City, and Long Island, stamps, collections of phrases and writing, hair clippings, and flower pressings. While the last quarter of the scrapbook appear empty, there is at least one poem written on a folded sheet of paper.

These 13 letters were written by French citizens in 1944 and 1945 during the Second World War and contain requests for employment. Many of the Parisian job seekers describe their previous experiences and their reason for application. Also included are charts that recorded employment data about various individuals after the war, such as name, position title, and entry and termination dates.

Theodore Dize Papers

The Theodore Dize Papers document the shipping business of the bugeye James G. Blaine, captained by Theodore and Westley Dize, between 1894 and 1923. An additional account from 1995 records the names of watermen who shipped out of Baltimore at the turn of the century to dredge oysters. Dize shipped out of Crisfield, Smith Island, and Baltimore, dredging oysters and transporting merchandise. The shipping business is documented through agreements, worker records, and extensive receipts. Also included are printed ephemera including book advertisements.
