Family Bible Collection

Bibles donated to the Nabb Center, whether singly or as part of a larger collection, have been integrated into this collection. A variety of print editions spanning from 18th Century to 20th century are represented, as well as various religious denominations and types of Bibles. Most of the Bibles contain hand-written notations of family history – including births, deaths, marriages and baptisms-- for several surnames beyond the title. Some may contain additional clippings or other items and some Bibles do not contain any family information. Family Bibles held by the Nabb Center and not included in this collection are also referred to in the inventory. A partial transcription of the family history pages is available upon request (full transcription will be made available online soon).
Louis Purnell Descendants Day records

Descendants Day presentation material compiled by Mark Purnell on his ancestor Louis (Lewis) Purnell (1840-1865), and includes his supporting research for his ancestors manumission, muster roll in the 9th Infantry of the United States Colored Troop, and record of death at the age of 25.
Purnell and Winder families photographs

The photographs of the Purnell and Winder families document the lives of Oscar Moore Purnell, and his descendants, originally of Worcester County, Maryland. The materials were compiled by Richard Bayly Winder, III, the grandson of Oscar Purnell, and depict individuals from four generations of the family during the early 1900s to 1950. Many photographs feature the Oscar M. Purnell house in Snow Hill, Maryland, and the surrounding rural areas of Worcester County. There are also photographs of the Ocean City, Maryland beach and boardwalk during the first half of the 20th century, and a few personal records, and ephemera relating to various members of the Winder family.

Hand-drawn Purnell family tree composed by Emma Purnell, 1888 and includes a family crest with the word "Virtue" written beneath. Written in the lower right corner of the tree, "A tree of the Purnell family made by Emma J. Purnell, eight in descent from the first Thomas in 1888. "=" This character is used for the word married, "+" is to indicate left no descendant. According to tradition in the Robins family, the wife of the first Thomas Purnell was Esther Looman but my grandfather thought differently and suggested it was Elizabeth who was born in 1670(?) also that the first Purnell came over here in 1635 when he was not quite grown. *Mayor William Purnell, son of Elisha was Mayor of ______ in Worcester, Md. during the Revolutionary War.
