Folklife Collection - The Munich Clan
by Salisbury University Students (1994)
1 folder (0.1 linear feet)
In 1994, former Salisbury University student Paula Neal collected folk material. For this project, the student decided to talk about a special folk group she belonged to: "the Munich Clan", which was a group of students who used to attend a division of the University of Maryland established in Munich, Germany, for the family of deployed military or U.S. and allied countries' government workers. Her paper describes this unique student body who created its own fraternities and sororities (identified by animal names), and improvised its traditions (pledge programs, social activities). The paper then focuses on the folklore of her group of friends (the "Munich Clan"). Pictures and cartoons enclosed.
