Folklife Collection - Wildfowl Art Carvers
by Salisbury University Students (1993)
1 folder (0.1 linear feet)
In a series of interviews of local Eastern Shore residents in 1993, Salisbury University students and teachers collected folk life material. For this project, Kenneth M. Shipley chose to focus on decoy carving. He developed an interest in this folk art while working at the Ward Museum which was founded in honor of Lem and Steve Ward, two renowned wildfowl carvers from Crisfield, Md. He also attended the 1993 Wold Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition in Ocean City, Md, where he had the opportunity to talk to many carvers, two of which accepted to share their life story.
