Folklife Collection - The Folklore of Baseball
by Salisbury University Students (1992)
1 folder (0.1 linear feet)
In a series of interviews of local Eastern Shore residents in 1992, Salisbury University students and teachers collected folk life material. For this project, Michael A. Edwards chose to focus on the folklore of baseball. He used his own experience and the personal narratives of his grandfather to put this piece together. Among the topics covered are the stories about "drunken umpire" and his grandfather's reprehensible behavior back when playing under the influence of alcohol was tolerated. In contrast, Michael's experience involving baseball and alcohol ended up quite differently as time has changed. Other aspects of baseball lore such as occupational folklore are also discussed.
